These are a few of the more common questions we get asked by prospective clients considering using our services…

Q: Who are you?

A: We are a firm of Chartered Accountants operating from a conveniently located office in Canton, Cardiff,  South Wales servicing the South Wales and surrounding areas. 

 

 Q: Are you Qualified?

A: Yes we are a firm of Chartered Accountants registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW).

 

Q: Is it expensive to use an Accountant?

A: Our business model is based on utilising modern technology to reduce cost, improve efficiency and make our services available to small and medium businesses and individuals. Because we do not occupy an expensive high street shop front our overheads are considerably lower than larger firms, and therefore so are our fees.

 

Q: Your office is in Cardiff and I live elsewhere, is it practical for Obp to be my Accountant?

A: Very much so. Don’t let distance be a factor if you are thinking of changing accountant. The move towards electronic communications makes it far more cost effective and convenient for us to work over the internet, phone or email without the need for you to leave your office. Many of our clients have remarked our level of personal service far exceeds what their local Accountant used to offer.  We also use computer software  that allows us to conduct meetings by using web conferencing and video chat.

 

Q: How easy is it to change accountants and why should I change?

A: If your existing accountant is offering you an excellent pro-active service at a fair fee then stick with them. However, different accountants will save you different amounts of tax and provide different levels of business advice. If your present accountant doesn’t offer the type of service you want and that we do offer, then changing over to us is very easy. It involves just one letter from you and we take care of everything else for you. Your existing accountant is not usually allowed to charge you for providing the normal handover information.

 

Q: I’ve just had my accounts done and don’t need an accountant until next year, so is there any need to contact you now?

A: We can’t over emphasise the importance of tax planning at an early stage, not crisis driven advice. Ideally you do tax planning before the year even starts but after that, the earlier the better. The same is applicable to all areas of advice and we are about helping you change the future, not just reporting what has already happened.

 

Q: Will you come to visit us for an initial consultation?

A: Yes. It often helps to see your business, books and records, etc at first hand and we are always happy to invest our time without charge to show you what we can do. Of course, if you prefer to visit us, that’s fine too.

 

Q: When and how soon can you come to see us?

A: When’s good for you? Let us know and we’ll do our utmost to help. If you need to see somebody urgently, we’re always out and about and can arrange to see you very quickly.

 

Q: Is your fixed quote guaranteed for more than one year?

A: We’re not in the business of providing low quotes just to get your business for the first year and then raising the fees. We want you as a long term client who trusts us to do what we say we will do. We quote what we anticipate to be a fair fee for the value provided and would only anticipate normal inflationary increases if the work stays the same. Very occasionally there may be reasons why the amount of work involved exceeded what was expected but we would sit down and discuss these with you. In some cases, where it is clear exactly what work is involved we can guarantee the fee for more than one year.

 

Q: Why do I need to use the online accountancy software?

A: Changes to legislation means that in the near future YOU WILL have to file returns by using software that hold digitised records and that Making Tax Digital will become mandatory in the future. Online accountancy software will allow you to do this and also saves you time and improves your efficiency. It gives you up to the minute information on your business and most importantly can assist you to make changes to improve your business and do some tax planning. We use the latest online software such as Xero, Quickbooks, Kashflow, Sage and many others which can assist you by providing you real time information on your business. We also provide ALL our clients with the FREE use of RECEIPT BANK, a brilliant piece of software that can definitely cut time for our clients to focus on what they do best, their business. 

 

Q: I’m worried about using the online software do you provide assistance?

A: We will discuss with you the most suitable software to use in your business, whether that is Xero, Quickbooks, Kashflow, Sage, One-Tap or any other type that you may wish to use.   We will help you set up the software and provide assistance on how to use it effectively. This may result in you doing your own bookkeeping, stock control, time management etc online or you may ask us to do it all for you.

 

 Q: What does your app do?

 A: The Obp App is a free app that provides you with tools that can assist you with both your business and personal accountancy and tax needs. It includes a mileage tracker, tax tables, various tax and business calculators in addition to the latest financial news and information.
